Looking, Listening, and Having Fun! |
Popcorn popping is a delicious and attention-grabbing way to explore the five senses. We started by looking at and feeling the popcorn kernels before they were popped. Then, the popcorn went into the air popper in the middle of the carpet and we saw it spinning around super fast. We listed describing words on popcorn-shaped paper and placed them under the correct sense on our poster. We took a handful of the newly popped popcorn and described it using our five senses. We wrote down these words to record our learning.
"I see one popping out"
"I can hear the motor spinning the popcorn"
"I can smell the popcorn and really want to eat some"
"Look, they are so white on the brown paper"
"It feels bumpy and dry"
"Oh I can feel the heat of the air"
"I love popcorn because it tastes so yummy"
Our popcorn chart is now a play station. We colored and cut out pictures of things around us. We sorted them into each popcorn box based on what sense we used the most.
We love sorting and resorting.....and doing it all over again!

Can you sense we had fun learning?
